Description

The Potential Wind Farms indicate areas of interest for wind farm development previously identified by stakeholders.

MSP Challenge

This layer is for information purposes only; it can help deciding which areas to give preference when planning for new wind parks.

This puts no pressure on the ecosystem.

Return to energy.

In this tab you can see the information that applies concretely to the North Sea edition of the MSP Challenge. In the North Sea Digitwin edition this layer refers to planned wind farms. Scroll further down for the details over the North Sea Digitwin edition.

North Sea Digitiwn Edition

In the North Sea Digitwin Edition, the areas where there is identified interest to develop wind farms, are called "Wind Farms - Designated Areas". This data layer is based on the data layer from the North Sea Edition but with updated data for the Netherlands EEZ using data from Rijkswaterstaat. The latest version of this layer was implemented July of 2024.

In this edition there is also a geodata layer indicating areas of potential suitability for wind farm development - "Wind Farms - Areas of Search". The source of that information is Rijkswaterstaat (WMS link) and was accessed July of 2024. Rijkswaterstaat has this data marked as Areas of Search for after 2030.

In the Baltic Sea the potential areas for wind farm development are called "Potential Wind Farms (RI.SE)".

The Potential Wind Farms (RI.SE) are areas with potential for wind energy production in the Baltic Sea, according to Baltic LINes project output provided directly by the project's partners (SwAM, RI.SE). For more info see the full report here).

Types

The types reflect the year the wind farms would be implemented.

Creation Date

Not available. Data received on 2018-09-12.

Methodology

Reprojected the geodata layer to Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area (EPSG:3035).

Western Baltic Sea

The Potential Wind Farms layer in the Western Baltic Sea Edition remains consistent with that featured in the Baltic Sea edition.

Not applicable. This data layer is not available in the Clyde Marine Region Edition.

Not applicable. This data layer is not available in the Adriatic Sea Edition.

Not applicable.

This layer is not present in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
