The Mesopelagic zones is a middle layer of the ocean between the epipelagic and bathypelagic layers.
Mesopelagic fish live and feed at midwater at depths between 200m and 1000m  (or 150-2000 m - sources differ). Generally characterized by dim light and steep temperature gradients. (fishbase n.d.)
