North Sea Digitwin Edition

In the North Sea Digitwin Edition, the areas where there is identified interest to develop wind farms, are called "Wind Farms - Designated Areas". This data layer is based on the data layer from the North Sea Edition but with updated data for the Netherlands EEZ using data from Rijkswaterstaat. The latest version of this layer was implemented March 2025.

In this edition there is also a geodata layer indicating areas of potential suitability for wind farm development - "Wind Farms - Areas of Search". The source of that information is Rijkswaterstaat (WFS Link) and was accessed March 2025. Rijkswaterstaat has this data marked as Areas of Search for after 2030.

Sand Extraction Edition

In the Sand Extraction Edition of the North Sea the same layers are used as in the Digitwin Editon.

In the Baltic Sea the potential areas for wind farm development are called "Potential Wind Farms (RI.SE)".

The Potential Wind Farms (RI.SE) are areas with potential for wind energy production in the Baltic Sea, according to Baltic LINes project output provided directly by the project's partners (SwAM, RI.SE). For more info see the full report here).
