Many of the undersea cables are unused. One Dutch undersea cable salvage company estimates that of the 2.3 million km of cables that have been laid under the sea, 530.000 km are known to be out-of-service and not in use. Unused cables cause congestion on the seabed and make it difficult to lay new cables. Subsea infrastructure contains significant amounts of materials (plastics & metals), which rely on finite resources that are becoming increasingly scarce.
Unused Cables is a static data layer. They are point-by-point lines that you can draw in, edit or remove when making a plan.
