The Mesopelagic zone is a middle layer of the ocean between the epipelagic and bathypelagic layers. Mesopelagic fish live and feed at midwater at depths between 200m and 1000m (or 150-2000 m - sources differ). Generally characterized by dim light and steep temperature gradients. (fishbase n.d.)

Mesopelagic fish represents a group of fish species that live in the mesopelagic zone and have similar ecological roles in the region.
Mesopelagic Fish is a month-by-month, computer generated data layers following calculations made by the ecosystem simulation (EwE). The simplified EwE Eastern Mediterranean model was adjusted for use in the MSP Challenge by Eyal Ofir.
