Sediment can include cobbles, pebbles, gravel, sand and mud or a combination of these.
For reference, sediment is classified taking into account particles' size:
- gravel: 16-4 mm
- coarse sand: 4-1 mm
- medium sand: 1-0.25 mm
- fine sand: 0.25-0.063 mm
- mud: less than 0.063 mm
