Countries surrounding the Baltic Sea
The countries' layer symbolizes the land masses around the sea basin.
Information about each country can be viewed by clicking on the 'i' icon (see image below) on each country, this is information retrieved from wikipedia and other non-official sources as well as common knowledge.

To create this layer, two layers were used: "Admin 0 – Countries" and "Lakes + Reservoirs"
The countries' layer distinguishes between metropolitan (homeland) and independent and semi-independent portions of sovereign states. Each country is coded with a world region that roughly follows the United Nations setup.
The lakes' layer includes natural and artificial lakes.

The source countries' layer was combined with the source lakes layer and the geometries were simplified. In the course of the simplification process some smaller areas (islands and lakes) were removed.
