==Description==
Benthos refers to the community of organisms that live on, in, or near the bottom of a sea, river, lake, or stream, also known as the benthic zone. This community lives in or near marine or freshwater sedimentary environments, from tidal pools along the foreshore, out to the continental shelf, and then down to the abyssal depths. Sessile benthos such as oysters and barnacles can  attach themselves to hard rocky substrate in opposition to [[mobile benthos]] (wikipedia, n.d.).

Sessile benthos is a month-by-month, computer generated data layer following calculations made by the ecosystem simulation (EwE). The simplified EwE Eastern Mediterranean model was adjusted for use in the MSP Challenge by Eyal Ofir.
